I had a conversation with someone recently about practice and I couldn’t remember what I’d said, so I asked them to repeat it back. They told me I talk about all of this in a way no one does. So I thought I’d try to riff a bit on it.
S: It was that we’re learning to focus focus focus (in most traditions) but we really don’t know why. It’s like we’re focusing and hoping. Hoping we stumble onto something. But I think what you’re saying is that yes we need focus and need to develop it but that is so that we can actually throw ourselves into what’s happening. When I focus there’s something happening below the radar and I can be with that. And I think you’re saying that’s where the juice is
and the moment I understand it, or try to hold onto it, it’s gone
Corey: Right. Thanks
S: Would love to hear you elaborate on it! Thanks Core!!
S: If I can add one more thing. I think trying to stop thoughts by force of concentration alone starts to hit a dead end and it’s through this deeper place that we can get into samadhi. That’s what I kind of took away.
